Where the shock comes from
Three things stack: a stiff frame, a stiff string, and high tension. Any one is manageable; all three together is the setup behind most club-level arm trouble. Stiff polyester became the default because it dominates professional tennis, but professionals restring constantly, swing differently, and have staff. A poly that is four sessions old has lost much of its elasticity and is harsher than the day it went in.
What actually helps
Softer material first — multifilament or natural gut, or a gut hybrid if you want to keep some bite. Lower tension second; a few pounds down does more for comfort than most string swaps. Fresh strings third, because dead poly is a hard bed regardless of what it was when new. And look at the frame: a high RA value with a stiff string is the combination to avoid, which is why the finder scores the pairing rather than the string on its own.
