Tennis string hybrids
A hybrid puts one string in the mains and a different one in the crosses. 176 of the 396 beds here are hybrids, rated as their own thing — because a hybrid does not play like the average of its two strings.

Almost every hybrid exists to resolve one trade: polyester gives bite, control and durability but transmits shock and goes dead; multifilament and natural gut give comfort and feel but move, fray and lose tension. Putting the poly in the mains and the softer string in the crosses keeps most of the bite — the mains do the snapback — while the crosses take some of the harshness out.
Which string goes where
The mains run the length of the racket and do most of the work: they stretch further, move more, and wear out first. That is why the durable, slick string almost always goes there. The crosses mainly govern how the bed feels and how quickly it settles. Reverse the order — gut mains, poly crosses — and you get the classic professional setup: enormous feel and power, at a price and a lifespan most club players will not accept.
Tension
A hybrid is usually strung with the crosses a little lower than the mains when the crosses are the softer string, so the softer material is not stretched into stiffness. Ask your stringer rather than guessing; the right offset depends on both materials.

The reference spin polyester. An octagonal profile bites the ball and the stiff, low-powered response keeps everything short and controlled, so you can swing fully without sailing. Expect heavy shape and reliable depth control; expect also a firm feel and a fairly quick drop in tension. Not a comfort string — pair it with gut in a hybrid if your arm objects.
